During these bleak wintry days, those long summer evenings relaxing on our Teakunique furniture in the garden seem a world away. However we’ve decided that December isn’t all bad! As well as festive fun and Christmas shopping, this month also marks the start of the European ski season, so its time for us to get planning our ski holiday.
The Trois Vallees is a favourite resort of ours, with 600km of mountains to explore, be it steep couloirs (which we tackle occasionally!), scenic paths through the trees (which we ski frequently, generally after lunch!), or back-of-beyond runs (that we tend to find when we get lost!). We’re also very partial to the Savoyarde cusine and, of course, the odd vin chaud to keep morale up on those cold days.
With less stamina to party than a decade ago, we find ourselves gravitating towards the quieter and more traditional villages these days, which all have fast lifts to the best ski areas now. If you haven’t already booked your ski holiday for this season, then we recommend you take a peek at Chalet Coco, which ticks all the boxes for us. It’s in the hamlet of Villarabout, not far from the pretty village of St Martin, within the Trois Vallees. It’s beautifully designed, fully catered and sleeps 10.
Best of all, after a long day on the slopes, you can head back, relax on the terrace (on Teakunique Flores stacking chairs and oval extending table – we’re serious when we say our furniture withstands all weather!), share stories of the day and take in the spectacular mountain views.
The Trois Vallees ski lifts open this weekend and we can’t wait to get out there later this season. But for now, back to that festive fun and present buying… and if you’re still looking for inspiration, do take a look at our festive gift guide and offers.
